want to teach a class?
Welcome Prospective Instructors!
Our Bread School strives to offer a calendar of unique, engaging, and thoughtful courses for home bakers of diverse skill levels and interests. As a Community Bakery, we love working with talented home and professional bakers that want to share their stories and recipes with our students.
Instructors will be part of a small cohort of bakers working to develop a course under the mentorship of the Rebel Bread team. Each instructor will have the opportunity to teach their course three times during their cohort season.
The Fall 2019 Cohort will be coached by Zach Martinucci.
Frequently-Asked Questions
What experience do I need to apply?
The most important qualification is that you are a passionate, skilled home baker with particular knowledge in your course subject area. Are you a cream puff master, or rye-baker-extraordinaire? Tell us about that!
You don’t necessarily need any experience as a cooking instructor—we’ll help you translate your recipes and ideas into an engaging baking class.
What is the time commitment?
We ask that you give yourself about 12 hours for planning and home recipe testing in the month leading up to your course. We expect you to meet all content and planning deadlines leading up to your class (don’t worry—we’ll help you with this).
In addition to your three class sessions, we will ask you to serve as a Class Assistant in your fellow instructors’ sessions, based on your availability. These sessions are paid, and give you the opportunity to experience the other courses. The following dates are also mandatory (please let us know ASAP if you have any conflicts):
Cohort Mini-Retreat | Evening of July 31
Run-Through Event | Evening of August 21
Two individual meetings in preparation for your course (flexible timing)
Cohort Closing Happy Hour (TBD —Late Fall 2019)
Is this a paid position?
All instructors are paid a base stipend for each class session they teach, with additional bonuses available. The base stipend ranges from $50-100 per session offered, depending on the course type.
